The Orientation Programme

The Orientation Programme is commissioned to BURC and funded by the Good Relations Unit of Belfast City Council. The aim of the project is to provide newcomers to Belfast, whatever their status and nationality, with practical information to help them settle in their new home.

BURC works in partnership with various associations and statutory bodies to organise and deliver the Programme.

We ran an Orientation Week in June, delivering workshops on various topics: life in Northern Ireland, the education system, the health system, how benefits work, rights and responsibilities of asylum seekers and refugees, and volunteering opportunities in Belfast. We provided information on English classes and on the Friendship Clubs in North and South Belfast. We also organised a practical walking tour of South Belfast, visiting health centres, halal shops, ATMs and spots that are useful to be able to pinpoint when we first move to a new place.

In October, we ran two Orientation Days, in North and South Belfast, focusing on a general introduction of life in the country, the health system and a workshop on rights and responsibilities of asylum seekers and refugees.

More workshops are being planned, therefore stay tuned and keep checking our website!
